PASSERS of the June 2006 nursing licensure examination have asked the Court of Appeals to cite Labor Secretary Arturo Brion for contempt because he stopped the nurses’ oath-taking despite the court’s ruling to allow it.
In a petition filed by their lawyer Rene Saguisag, the passers said Brion, a former CA Justice, disrespected the law when on Oct. 16, he stopped the Professional Regulation Commission from enforcing the CA ruling.
The petitioners were led by Renato Aquino Jr. of the Alliance of New Nurses, which had been against ordering a retake of the nursing board exam following the disclosure that its questions had been leaked.
“It is respectfully prayed that Sec. Arturo Brion be asked to show cause why he should not be cited for contempt for toying with this Honorable Court and mocking the majesty of the law,” the petition said.
Brion directed the Professional Regulation Commission to refrain from administering the oath to the nursing board passers on Oct. 16 despite a CA ruling allowing it, saying the dissenting parties could file a motion for reconsideration.
