Two in PRC probed for nurse test leak

Two members of the Board of Nursing have been implicated in the leakage of test questions during last month’s board examinations for nurses.
ABS-CBN News reported Thursday night that the Professional Regulation Commission confirmed that the questions had indeed been leaked.
A PRC fact-finding committee assigned to probe the leakage also said that the leakage during the test from June 11 to 12 was traced to two members of the Board of Nursing. The committee recommended the filing of administrative charges against the two.
The committee did not identify the board officials. They were earlier directed by the board to disqualify themselves from the processing and release of the results pending the investigation.
“This leakage irregularity shall be referred to the National Bureau of Investigation for its own investigation and determination of all persons and parties involved and their criminal prosecution under the law,” the fact-finding body said.
The report was signed by Leonor Tripon-Rosero, chairman, and commissioners Avelina de la Rea and Renato Valdecantos.
Ninety-two examinees have filed a complaint about the leakage with the PRC. The PRC earlier denied the rumors, saying that the examination system has been improved to prevent leakages.
The exam results are expected to be released next week.
Thousands take the nursing board exam every year, hoping to eventually land a good job for nurses abroad.
The Philippines has deployed more than 100,000 nurses abroad, mainly in the Middle East, the United States and Europe.
There are 460 nursing schools in the country, 40 of which were said to have a zero passing rate in the board exam. Twenty-three reportedly failed to make the minimum passing rate of eight percent.
